What's a woodland themed party without mushrooms?

I found this tutorial on Martha Stewart and it's a MUST make for the party.

I could not believe how easy it was to make and how awesomely vintage they turned out.

I whipped up nine of them in no time.

Then painted and glittered...

and took two toadstools, a little hot glue, moss, a small wooden plaque, a teeny tiny wooden flower pot and made this. So cute, ay? I feel like it needs something.

And so I made a little banner. I'm still figuring out what to put on the banner and then hang it from the mushrooms. Maybe, "Stella" or "Happy 1st"?

Hmmm... what do you think?

As for the other lovelies, I'm thinking of having them around the house. They're just too darn cute.

Lala's first birthday...

yikes! Already?!

It was a toss up between Yo Gabba Gabba or a woodland theme.

Whoa, either end of the spectrum, I know. So when I saw this little guy,

 it was a no brainer. How stinkin' cute to have this little fella sitting on top of the cake?! I'm still debating how to paint him... all white? Color?

KCWC Fall pt2

 Hello!

Woohoo! I was on a roll last week and I'm so glad I planned ahead. This week is a doozy! Lala is taking her morning nap, so I have a quick moment to share with you today...

 

 I have a confession... I'm a fabric hoarder. I LOVE fabric. Thank goodness I'm poor, 'cause that's what keeps me at bay for the most part. I had bought this fabric about two years ago. LOVE it. Had no clue what I was going to do with, but I wanted it. So as I was rummaging through my stash, trying to find that right fabric for the tunic in mind, there it was... like a ray of ethereal light shining through the piles of glorious textiles.

"Ahhh... yesss! This is the one!"

Funny how things work out. ***wink***

So after sewing the tunic (which was another quick sew to my surprise), I realized the cuff is sized for "delicate" wrists. Aaaack! Dagnabit... what the heck?! Lala is a "healthy" girl and there ain't  nothing delicate about her wrists. So Improvised. Clever, ay?

 Here's the pattern I used. Really easy- really quick to sew. This another pattern I'll be using again. Maybe plaid? Hmmm... time to hunt through my stash!

Before I go, here's one more! A simple stretch knit top.

I used a Alexander Henry Heath fabric collection in grey for the trim around the collar. I plan to make some bubble shorts in it to match (a tutorial will be coming soon!).

And here's the pattern used for the top. Again, an easy pattern and quick to sew. My only gripe is that I'm not too fond of the collar. I think I need to open it up a bit... a bit more "rounder" in the opening.

I'll be using this again as well.

KCWC Fall 2011 pt.1

Alrighty... let's get the party started! ***woot-woot***

So technically you're suppose to start sewing this week, but I had to start a wee bit early. A dear friend of mine is reopening her pottery shop and has asked moi to help out this week. OH, I'm so excited! Y'see, I LOVE typography. I used to make huge banners and posters for my girls' school back in the day and when I worked at my friend's pottery shop, I would do the chalk boards. So when she asked, I was MORE than delighted to help. Anyways... this is another post later.

What was I talking about? Ah yes, KCWC. ***woot-woot***

Okay, so let's start with my one of my most favorite of favorite patterns:

The Charlie Tunic by none other, Miss Rae Hoekstra

 I can't tell you enough how quick and easy it was to whip up one of these babies. Rae... can I just say... "I love you". Not one and I couldn't stop at two, but so far I've made three. Yes, three... and counting...

Let's start with this one. I went for the shorter sleeve and added pockets.

I had just enough fabric to have the design centered and adding the pockets was the cherry on top. How cute with a little cardi and tights, right?

Next is this little number.

Long sleeves this time and I added a band on the bottom. I made it a wee bit loner than the first one. Lala has orange crocs to match. Dang it, I wish I had a photo of it. 

Lastly (for now), is this pretty. AH! I just love Japanese fabric, don't you? I made this one slightly larger so that it will fit perfectly as we come closer to the colder weather. Also, do you notice anything different?

I rounded out the collar detail. I think I like the more rounded edge versus the square or the pointed. It's seems a bit more fitting with the design of the fabric.

Man, I love this fabric... did I mention how much I love this fabric?!

So if you have wee ones (boy or girl... it's all good), and you sew, this is a MUST try pattern. For reals! I'm not gettin' paid to say this and Lord knows, Rae certainly doesn't need my help, it's just when I come across something awesome, I'll let the whole world know!

Hmmm...

I need more succulents. The nice thing about this species of plants is that once your succulents start to have "pups", you separate them, and replant. Since I purchased these lovelies, Flora has two pups and Charo has one.

I still need more though...

Now here's another idea...

I had gotten this from one of my favorite surplus shops and my idea is possibly planting the gang in the drawers. Rust would be an issue, but my dears... I have that covered! I have collected a few of the little plastic containers that Lala's food came in and they fit perfectly. So come time to watering, I can just pull them out.

prototype. feedback, please

Hello.

I made this hat a while ago and I've been sitting on it, thinking... okay well not literally sitting on it. Let me show you and tell me what you think...

Eh? I always loved the bandana style, I just wanted to have a little more protection. So why not add a brim? I also made it reversible (see pic below).

Lala likes it. Hubby laughed. He says she looks like a Japanese factory worker. "Awww... she's my cute factory worker" I told him.

Okay, so feedback please! Should I make more? Would you have your wee one wear it? I'm curious...

Ah... you see?! Yes... Lala's little friends.

Allow me to introduce to you, Fred...

now Fred was a gift from my lovely and ever so talented cousin Anna. Handmade and designed after her youngest daughter, Alexa's love for Ugly Dolls. Fred is a shy kind of guy who suffers from acute incontinence, so Alexa made a special undie for him so that he can sleep with confidence.

This is Cleo. Cleo is the older brother of Theodore. Like Theodore, Cleo gets chilly very easily and is very much attached to his scarf. Even on the hottest of days, his beloved scarf is wrapped nice and tight around his neck. Cleo loves quiet time. Reading a good book under layers upon layers of blankies is his favorite past time.

Do you remember these lovelies (shown below)?

Mim is such the mothering type. Always looking after the others and making sure everyone is tended to. She's very particular when it comes to table manners.

Theodore is a sensitive young lad. Very quiet, soft spoken and avoids eye contact. People often mistaken him as being shy.

Clementine is always humming a tune and counting her oranges. She'll eat just about anything... so long as it has oranges in it!

Now you have met Lala's friends. There are more to come for I have a slew of characters waiting to be sewn. They're all nestled in my idea book and dancing in my head.

kcwc: skirts

Bonjour!

 

Here's my second entry. A skirt for Miss Lily Moon.

   

I bought the "air mail" and plaid fabric from this lovely shop and the pretty little doily from this shop. The lightweight denim is from JoAnn's. I've had the fabric for some time and I have been jumping back forth what to make from it. So when this challenge came about, I thought it would be darling to make a skirt. The design is mine. No Pattern. I'm most certain, just by looking at it, you can figure it out and make one too! Super-uber easy and quick to whip up. The only part that took time was embroidering the sweet message, "Bonjour ami!" ("Hello friend").

Oh I can't wait for Lily to wear this. Pair it a sweet sweater, scarf, tights and brown boots... Aaaa!!! Just too sweet. 

Now this isn't the first skirt in this design...

 

I had made these in early summer.

 

 

 

I love to put a contrasting fabric on the inside of pockets. It's like a little smile hiding... waiting for you to see.

I designed this skirt with my girls in mind. I love having BIG pockets for their DS or their Ipod. It's also a nice size for Lily to tote one her little dolls along. 

I've pondered whether or not to do a tutorial on this skirt, but like I mentioned earlier, just by looking at it, you can figure out how to make one. Hmmm... what do you think? Is a tutorial in order? Let me know...

kcwc: Lily's capelet

Hello!

Here's my first entry...

 

A capelet for Miss Lily Moon.

 

I used heavy weight flannel and recycled toggles. I was debating whether or not to line the cape, but living in San Diego, where it doesn't get too cold, I opt for none. I also added a flower brooch I made from last year. A perfect match!

 

If in case you're wondering where I got the pattern, I got it from this lovely japanese craft book. Soooo many cute and simple designs in this book and the directions are pretty easy to follow. I have more pics from this book and from another one of my favorites in my previous post.

I'm off to do more sewing...
